WFH Primer for Revit Designers

With the progression of the COVID-19 in Australia, Cadgroup has been receiving considerable amount of inquiries from Revit-based design offices on how to set up the software to enable staff members to work from home (WFH). In the following I will break the tasks into two main categories, licensing and cloud software of choices.

Licensing:

Autodesk:

Please refer to this link for further information: SU and MU Autodesk licensing

Bluebeam:

You can now extend your initial 30-day trial by another 60 days, by going to https://www.bluebeam.com/au/covid-19 and click on Get Code in the page once the initial 30 day trial is over.

To move Bluebeam license to another PC:

  1. Unregister the current PC by launching Bluebeam -> Revu -> Unregister

2. Download and install the same version (2018/2019) and same product (Standard/CAD/eXtreme) from this link https://support.bluebeam.com/updates/

3. Use the same serial number and product key to activate the copy of Bluebeam

Enscape:

Similar to Bluebeam, deactivate on the office PC and use the same code to activate on home PC:

Cadgroup Revit XT:

Deactivate on the office PC and use the same code to activate on home PC:

Cloud software:

To access Revit model from home while maintaining decent performance, we can rely on the power of BIM 360 Design, please note that all WFH members need to be assigned a license of Revit and BIM360 Design.

Here is a detailed setup guide on BIM360: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/bim-360/learn-explore/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/BIM-360-Design-Getting-Started.html

For non-Revit files, such as PDF, Microsoft office documents (*.ppt, *.docx), we can use Bluebeam Studio to store them in the cloud so it can be accessible to all project team. Bluebeam studio comes free with every Bluebeam Revu license (Standard/CAD/eXtreme), to utilise this cloud service, the user needs to first create a Bluebeam ID by clicking Sign-in in the Studio Panel, then Create Account:

Once the account is created, log in and you can create Studio Projects and upload all project files to the cloud. Access control is simply by clicking the project settings and add or remove users by their Bluebeam ID emails:

We invite you to check out our other Cadblog entry that deals with the logisitcs of accessing Revit Projects when working remotely here – options-for-remote-access-in-revit
